Damp Mop Weekly - Wipe down your ceramic floor with a damp mop at least once a week. Make certain that any cleanser you have chosen is compatible with grout cleaning, (neutral pH), and will not stain the grout. Never use a detergent or soap, because it can dull the surface or promote the growth of mildew. Routine cleaners should never contain acids, vinegar, chlorines or ammonia, as these chemicals can damage and discolor the grout or the surface of the stone or tile.
Caution: Wait at least 72 hours after installation (to allow new ceramic tile and grout to dry) before damp mopping.
Always Blot Spills Immediately - A neutral pH detergent or pure soap, such as Liquid Ivory, and warm water, can be used for spills or periodic complete cleaning. Be sure to rinse the floor thoroughly and dry the surface with a soft, clean cloth. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Change your rinse water frequently.
Avoid - Do not use products that contain lemon juice, vinegar or other acids on marble, limestone or travertine.
You should avoid using products that contain abrasive cleaners, cleansers (dry or soft) or any ammonia-based cleaners on any stone. These products will dull its lustre. Also, do not use retail grout cleaners, scouring powders or bathroom tub and tile cleaners on your stone.
Limestone and slate look beautiful and are very durable when properly protected and maintained. Limestone (including travertine and marble) is more porous than slate and some other stone and, due to this high porosity, it is more susceptible to the absorption of water, oils, grease and dirt. With proper initial installation and sealing, and an ongoing care and maintenance programme, the natural beauty of all stone will endure for generations.
All sealing and maintenance products should be initially tested on an inconspicuous area of the installation to assure suitability with the stone, grout, etc. In all cases, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the specific product.
Resealing - Depending upon the amount and type of use (residential, commercial, etc.) and the frequency and type of maintenance carried out, all stone surfaces must be resealed periodically. Most commercial installations should be resealed every 1 to 3 years and lighter or residential uses every 3 to 5 years. One indicator that resealing is required is if the installation begins to absorb water or stains. Strip off all existing surface sealers or enhancers, clean any specific stain areas and reseal as per a new installation.
